5 Skin-Saving Beauty Products to Get You Through the Winter

We have been very fortunate so far this year where Old Man Winter is concerned; not too much snow and no major storms to speak of.  It has been cold though!  Bone-chillingly so, at times.  The heat in my house is currently cranked on full blast – and I am wearing 3 shirts, but that is neither here, nor there : )  The point I am getting at essentially, is that even on the mildest days, all of the dry heat, combined with the various conditions outside, can really wreak havoc on your skin.  These are a few of the products I swear by from December through March {Or more likely, April, in Upstate NY ; )} to keep mine in line ♥:

  1. Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay:  If I could recommend only one product from this list, it would be this mask.  I wish I had known about this “secret” years ago!  I use this roughly once a week depending, mixed with equal parts apple cider vinegar or water.  It initially leaves my face a little flushed – which I like, especially in the palest throes of Winter – and clears any blemishes on the spot {You can also use it on a rash, or other minor irritation – Be sure to test a small patch of skin first, though!}.  Need more convincing?  A little of this goes a long way, and a 1-pound container is under $10!  The best.
  2. Dragon Herbs Hair & Nails:  I will be the first person to admit that a lot of hair and nail formulas do not work; like at all, total waste of money, gimmick.  BUT, I happen to love this one.  Looking at some of the reviews online, I think this is a case of you have to do what works for you – and these definitely work for me.  I actually only take 2 a day, not the recommended 6 – because that sure seems like a lot – and have seen such a noticeable difference in my nails in particular.  I am not sure if this applies to “hair” but my eyelashes are out of control lately too {Disclaimer:  I have long eye lashes to begin with.  They just seem extra long and much fuller right now : )}.
  3. Olivine Love + Roses Beauty Mist:  I am a sucker for any product that contains rose water or rose oil {See here, here, here, and here}, so I purchased this after a friend recommended it to me.  I alternate between keeping this in my bag and on my nightstand, because I adore it so much. It smells wonderful, is super hydrating, and I am very into the branding {The first ingredient is “Unconditional Love”! ♥ ♥ ♥} and the messages that Julie, the creator and founder behind Olivine, shares.  Her perfumes are equally as beautiful, and I think that any of the items in her product line would make for a perfect V-Day gift!
  4. Korres Wild Rose Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial:  I have tried a lot of creams from Creme de la Mer on down to drugstore varieties, and have never felt that they moisturized my skin as well as almond or grapeseed oil does.  I splurged on this “sleeping facial” a few weeks ago though {See my obsession with all things rose, above : )}, and am so happy that I did.  The texture is very luxurious, it too smells wonderful, and when I wake up in the morning, I have ultra bright, smooth and soft skin.  I see this being a part of my beauty routine for an extremely long time!
  5. MAC Prep + Prime Fix+ Finishing Mist:  I use this as a finishing mist whenever I wear makeup, and it gives my skin such a fresh look.  Not only is it great as a setting agent, but it will give you that dewy, “It’s Summer!” sheen, even when it’s freezing, snowing, and blowing outside.  People have literally told me I am glowing when I have it on, and while I am very happy, and exercising a lot {Barre3 is currently kicking my butt!}, and generally eating clean, I am 100% sure this number has more to do with it than any of those things : )

This DIY lotion has been a real lifesaver, as well.  I have been mixing up batches of it with citrus essential oils {~ Perfect for energizing dull skin!}, and adding in even more dark greens into my diet for a boost of Vitamin A.  If you have any tips and tricks or must-try products to add to the list, I would love to know!
