It feels as if I have been on a “hair journey” for the better part of my adult life. Said hair is naturally wavy (to the point of almost being curly), and fine in texture, but there is A LOT of it! In other words, the perfect recipe for breakage, frizz, and the constant need to style. After years of experimenting with products, treatments, and a number of stylists, my hair has (finally!) reached a consistently healthy place. That being said, I want to share a few of the things that have worked for me, in the event that they might help someone else.
First and foremost, finding a stylist that I adore and trust has helped tremendously. I am fortunate enough to have Jen at Salon 129 right in my own backyard. And while I am not the best at sticking to a schedule per se (Does anyone else dislike booking appointments in advance?), I do have my hair cut and minimally color-treated periodically throughout the year.
One thing that Jen has taught me is that scalp health is of the utmost importance. I started using the Himalayan Scalp Scrub Shampoo you see above from goop beauty almost two years ago now, and it has 100% changed how I wash my hair (Scrub; once a week for detoxifying and purifying.). The shampoo is a unique whipped texture, with an excellent lather, which I find to be rare amongst other scrubs of its kind (I have tried several!). I thought it poignant to mention this one today too, as it is a part of the Amazon Prime Day deals, at a rare 30% off. “Add to cart”!
In keeping with scalp health, I like to do an oil treatment once a week as well, to promote new growth. You might already know about this viral favorite from Mielle Organics, but if not, it is worth the hype – with a fantastic pricepoint at that. This is another Amazon Prime Day deal, at (a steal!!!) of $6.99.
When I am feeling like my hair is in need of more than a quick treatment, the gold standard for hair health is the Leave-In Molecular Repair Hair Mask, from K-18. This mask has absolutely transformed my hair, and reduced some of the frizz I mentioned, which is especially important in the summertime! The numerous beauty awards, and 9,000+ reviews on the K-18 website are also a testament to how good this product is.
As far as regular washes, I do wash my hair quite often this time of year, between exercising outdoors and swimming in the pool, and generally feeling better when it is clean. I tend to alternate my standard shampoos and conditioners; this line, however, is one that I purchase from again and again. In-between washes, the Arrowroot Dry Shampoo from Ceremonia has become a must-have for me. The applicator makes all the difference, and I love that this is a clean (talc-free) brand!
This is obviously a topic I can, and would like to speak more on, so I will be rounding up more of my favorite styling products and tips & tricks in an additional post, down the road. In the meantime, please feel free to ask me any questions in the comments!
